Intrafamiliar firearm transfer?

Hello and thanks for your time :) ok I live in California and Iam 19 I own 2 shotguns , 1 rifle and 1 carbine. I want to own a handgun and my parents are willing to gift one to me during the holiday season, is this legal to do? I have done hours (literally) of reasearch and alot of people say its legal and there are some that say its a "straw transfer" so please if you can clear this up for me it would be great! thanks once again :)
