What kind of fabric would work best for a medieval cloak?

The Minnesota renaissance festival is coming up soon and I am looking to make an archers cloak. Most of the cloaks online are made of velvet or thin looking materials. I want an authentic look, so I am looking for a thick rugged material to make the cloak.
