What are some good and bad points to owning a gun?

I'd like to get a gun and a carry license. But Im not sure if its a good idea. I'd love to have it for home defense. I live in a ghetto area, im white, short and dont have a long reach lol. I do have a dog, no kids, a fiance, no kids. So can you give me a good idea list and a bad idea list please. What type of handgun is good for home defense? Is it hard to get a concealed carry license in OHIO? Is it worth getting that license?
